The warm-hearted devotees of Sochi, Russia – Indradyumna Swami Nectar

Last week, in a video describing Indradyumna Swami’s visit to Sochi in Southern Russia, Caturatma das described how he, along with His Holiness Indradyumna Swami and Badahari das encountered the sweet devotees in this warmer more part of Russia located on the Black Sea. Sochi is considered to be the Mediterranean of Russia: the weather is beautiful, the beaches are there, and there are lovely snow-capped mountains in the background. About 600,000 people reside in Sochi.

Indradyumna Swami’s very good friend, Caturatma das, narrated the video and said:

The devotees have been established here in the city for a very long time. Back in the 1980’s the early pioneers of Krishna Consciousness in Russia came to Sochi because it reminded them of India with its warm climate. Tropical trees, palm trees, banana trees can be found everywhere here. So they began preaching here and as a result its one of the oldest devotional communities in Russia.

Currently the devotee community is about 350-400 devotees residing here, they own a very nice piece of property just overlooking the city below. Two large brick buildings with a spacious space for all of their programs and pandals. Very, very wonderful Gaura-Nitai Deities are presiding over here and just behind Them on the altar are beautiful Jagannatha, Baladeva, and Subadra. Very unique features like you’ve never seen before. We’re very happy to be in Sochi. After all of our travels around the devotees here are very warm-hearted. We’ve held several festivals here. It was two very jam-packed days: invitations, Nrsimha-Caturdashi, and then the following day we observed a ten couple wedding ceremony. It was a very wonderful event because it showed how much important these weddings are in a Vaisnava community, these commitments to each other and the commitment as a couple to the community itself. We were very well-received, the wedding was very, very popular and everyone was quite satisfied here with the results.
